Welcome to this week's episode. As always, thank you for being here and joining me today. Today, we have a question from one of our community members from Dallas. She has a couple of really good questions. She says, “my partner just recently gave me HSV 1 genitally and now he has it genitally as well and we both had an outbreak this past week simultaneously. His last oral outbreak was ages ago about 10 yrs at least he thinks. We both claim to have been faithful. So is it a possibility he has HSV 1 in both locations? I didn’t know I had anything and I’ve tested negative for both as recently as Jan 2016. I had a razor burn that was unusually painful over the summer but it was nothing and it went away fairly quickly. This current outbreak is in  3 spots just like the one I had over the summer We are currently awaiting test results.” So the quick answer is yes, it is possible for your partner to have HSV 1 in both locations. Also, I want to say, thank you for being so open and talking about your relationship as well. I know it is a difficult thing to do.

So here is the breakdown, you can have HSV 1 both orally and genitally. If you partner has it orally it is possible that he passed it to you genitally through oral sex. If you have it genially then it is possible that you then passed it back to him genitally. The virus itself is very contagious and if we are not careful when we have outbreaks it is very easy to pass it to one another and to other locations on our own body. However, if you already have herpes in one location your body is already familiar with it and most likely will know how to react to it. So in other words, if you already have it orally then chances are you won't get it genitally. But it is possible.

I am sure that by now you have received your results. My thoughts are with you and I look forward to hearing more about this. Thanks again, Miss. Dallas, for reaching.
