CBD Has Many Healing Benefits

CBD is all the new rage and thank goodness!!! I can remember back in the early 2000’s when hemp was making a debut and it was sneaking its way out to the world. About 20 years later we now have CBD!!!

I have to be honest, at first I was a little sceptical about CBD.  I personally don’t smoke pot or use any products with THC in them so I was a little hesitant about using something that was associated with the marijuana plant. But here’s the deal...CBD or cannabidiol is one of the chemical compounds that are derived from the cannabis plant. The cannabis plant is like a jack of all trades and it can be used for so many different things like clothes, ropes, food and drinks but today we’ll just talk about the benefits of CBD. Just to make sure this is all clear, CBD does not contain THC which is the psychoactive cannabinoid. So in other words, CBD will not get you high.

So as you know when we get herpes outbreaks they can do the following to us:

  • Impact our mood
  • Cause anxiety or depression
  • It’s painful
  • They can itch
  • There can be an open wound
  • The skin can be irritated, inflamed and red

With all that being said, they are a pain and when we have outbreaks we’re looking for something that will take away the pain, help soothe the outbreak and reduce irritation.

So here’s 3 way’s CBD oil helps with herpes outbreaks:

  1. CBD is An Anti-inflammatory

As we all know, herpes outbreaks are inflamed. They are painful, red, the area can be swollen and uncomfortable to touch. Basically a classic definition of inflammation.  CBD offers lots of benefits like antioxidant, anti-inflammatory benefits and this supports the skin with dryness and even free-radical damage. CBD is also helpful with other skin conditions such as acne, eczema and even psoriasis

  1. CBD Suppresses Pain

Pain suppression is one of the major benefits of CBD. This is why so many people begin using it whether it be topically or internally to treat or manage pain. Here’s how researchers think it works; we all have ECS or endocannabinoid receptors in our brain that receive signals for pain and inflammation.  It’s believed that CBD interacts with the ECS or endocannabinoid receptors and our response to pain. So when applying CBD directly to an outbreak or taking it internally it can potentially reduce the pain associated with a herpes outbreak.

  1. CBD Supports Your Mood

Anxiety and depression unfortunately go hand-in-hand with a herpes diagnosis and these moods can be triggered when outbreaks occur. While it’s important to feel your emotions in order to work with them and recover, you also don’t want them to be paralysing, preventing you from working with your diagnosis. Nor do you want them to create more unnecessary anxiety or even give you an outbreak. Researchers believe that CBD’s benefits for depression and anxiety are due to the positive effects they have on the serotonin receptors in our brain. The CBD does not create more serotonin however it has an effect on how our brains respond to the serotonin. So by either applying it topically or ingesting CBD it can support your roller coaster of emotions when dealing with an outbreak.

As you can see here are 3 ways that CBD supports us while we’re dealing with an outbreak or dealing with our diagnosis. There are so many other benefits of CBD that we’ll save for another blog post.
